Devon Treetop Escape

An incredible architecturally-designed new build house in the Devon countryside, which became a relaxing country home surrounded by nature.

This house was shortlisted in the 2019 International Design and Architecture Awards and was a finalist in the 2019 Royal Institute of British Architecture’s RIBA House of the Year awards, as featured on Channel 4’s Grand Designs.

“Building a house from scratch and having no experience ourselves, Sophie’s advice was invaluable. She talked us through the floor plans, helped us to think about how we wanted to live in the house, considered every detail, and made all the practical arrangements to achieve it. She was a joy to work with; well-informed and inspirational, practical and efficient. We couldn’t recommend her more" - Client

Working with David Sheppard Architects, we created a relaxed family home using hardwearing materials that would withstand countryside living. We used sustainable and local finishes throughout the house, such as green oak and natural lime plaster walls.

A timeless, paired-back interior design scheme let the beautiful surroundings do the talking and we used a range of textures, such as plywood, velvet and sisal, to add interest and depth.

The intimate inky blue snug provides the only contrast and amplifies the impact of the rest of this neutral, light-filled family home.
